Why EdPublica Exists

EdPublica

Because truth needs defenders. Because science needs translators. Because the world needs journalism rooted in evidence—not noise.

We live in a moment of profound transformation. Climate change threatens our future, education systems must evolve, and technology is reshaping how we learn and live. Yet at the same time, public discourse is more fragmented, misinformed, and sensational than ever. Misinformation spreads faster than facts. Pseudoscience often drowns out peer-reviewed research. In a click-driven world, data-based reporting is increasingly sidelined.

But there’s another crisis: gender inequality in science. Despite decades of progress, women remain significantly underrepresented in research and STEM fields.

  • According to UNESCO data, only one in three researchers globally is a woman.
  • While women make up ~35% of STEM graduates, their representation drops sharply in fields like engineering, physics, and computing.
  • Even where women earn STEM degrees, systemic barriers—such as limited mentorship, career penalties, and bias—prevent them from leading labs or attaining senior research roles.

EdPublica exists to challenge these persistent inequalities and amplify voices that are too often marginalized. We believe a scientifically literate society must include everyone—not just those who have the privilege or opportunity.

We exist to:

  • Bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and public understanding
  • Counter misinformation and pseudoscience with evidence and transparency
  • Expose and interrogate gender bias in STEM and research careers
  • Empower underrepresented scientists through visibility, mentorship stories, and data-driven analysis
  • Champion solutions, innovations, and policy pathways that advance equity
  • Put data, science, education, and justice at the centre of public conversation
  • Restore trust in journalism through accuracy, depth and integrity

EdPublica believes that journalism should do more than chase clicks. It should uphold truth, illuminate inequality, and help people understand the world—and build a fairer future.

We exist because informed citizens make better choices, science thrives when every mind counts, and gender equity isn’t just justice—it’s scientific strength. And because the next generation deserves journalism worthy of their future.
